Once upon a time, in a big blue sea, there lived a tiny wave named Vohnyk. She loved to jump, dive, and dance in the sunshine.
One morning, Vohnyk saw children playing on the beach. They were building sandcastles, laughing, and clapping their hands.
"Oh, how fun!" thought Vohnyk. "I want to play with them!"
She gathered herself up and leaped high, high into the air. SPLASH! She landed right on top of a sandcastle.
The children gasped. The castle crumbled.
"Oh no," said Vohnyk sadly. "I didn't mean to…"
She rolled back into the sea and hid behind a big wave.
"Why are you so sad?" asked old Granny Wave.
"I broke the children's castle," whispered Vohnyk. "Now they won't want to be my friend."
"Try playing a different way," said Granny Wave. "Don't jump on castles. Bring them something pretty."
Vohnyk thought for a moment. She dove deep down and found a smooth seashell on the seabed. Then another. And a tiny starfish.
Gently, she rolled up to the shore and left the treasures on the wet sand.
The children saw the shells and the starfish.
"Look, the sea brought us presents!" cried a little girl.
"More! More!" clapped the children.
Vohnyk felt happy. She dove again and brought back more shells. The children laughed and gathered the sea treasures.
Then Vohnyk began to gently tickle their toes with her cool, fizzy foam. The children squealed with joy and ran back and forth.
All day they played together. Vohnyk brought gifts, tickled little feet, and sang her bubbly song.
In the evening, as the sun went down, the children waved to her.
"Goodbye, little wave! Come back tomorrow!"
Vohnyk happily splashed her foam and rolled back into the sea.
She lay down to sleep on a soft water pillow. Stars twinkled above, and she smiled, thinking about tomorrow.
On the beach, the sand rustled softly. Seashells lay there—gifts from the little wave.
