Once upon a time, there were seven colors who lived in the sky. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. They were brothers and sisters, and each one thought they were the most important of all.
One day, they gathered on a cloud and started to argue.
"I am the most important!" said Red. "I am the sun and the strawberries. Without me, everything would be sad!"
"I am warmth and joy!" cried Orange. "I am the orange and the sunset!"
"I am light and laughter!" said Yellow, bouncing up and down. "I am the dandelions and the sunflowers!"
"I am life!" said Green. "The trees and the grass are me!"
"I am the sky and the water!" said Blue softly. "Without me, there would be no rivers."
"I am the deep sea!" said Indigo proudly. "I am the night and peace."
"And I am dreams and magic!" whispered Violet mysteriously. "I am the violets and the evening."
They argued and argued, until it started to rain. All the colors hid under the cloud. The rain poured and poured, and then the sun came out.
"Look!" shouted Yellow.
There was a rainbow in the sky. But it was strange — it was only yellow. The people down below sighed.
"Oh, what a pale rainbow!" they said. "It is missing something."
"Should we try together?" suggested Green.
The colors took each other's hands and stepped out onto the sky. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet — all together!
And then a miracle happened. The rainbow shone bright and beautiful. All the colors danced across the sky: a red arc, then orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. The people down below cheered.
"How beautiful!" they cried.
The colors looked at each other and smiled.
"How wonderful it is when we are all together!" said Red.
And they never argued again. They just shone as one big rainbow.
The sun winked at them and hid behind a cloud. The rainbow stayed in the sky, quiet and happy.
