High up in the sky, there was a tiny star named Twinkle. She loved looking down at Earth, especially on New Year's Eve. The Moon noticed her wishing and said, "Be patient, little one. Your time will come."
Down on Earth, a brother and sister named Max and Olenka were hoping to see a New Year's miracle. Every night they looked out the window, but nothing special happened.
"Maybe miracles don't exist," Olenka said sadly.
"Perhaps we're not looking in the right way," Max thought.
On New Year's Eve, Twinkle felt a pull. She zoomed through clouds and snowflakes, right to a window where Max and Olenka sat by their Christmas tree.
"Look!" cried Olenka. "A star!"
A tiny golden star flew to their window. She shone so softly that the room grew warm and cozy.
"Are you real?" whispered Max.
Twinkle sparkled and twirled around the tree. Her light touched the ornaments, and they came to life! The snowman smiled, bells chimed on their own, and paper rabbits flapped their ears.
The children closed their eyes with joy. When they opened them, Twinkle sat on top of the tree, shining like a real star from the sky.
"Thank you," Olenka whispered.
"For what?" asked Max.
"For believing with me."
Twinkle glowed happily on the tree. She had found her place, where she was waited for and believed in.
The children fell asleep by the tree, hugging each other. Twinkle shone softly over them all night. Very quiet, very gentle.
The Moon peeked in the window and smiled. He knew it would be so.
