Bimka the Little Red Car and the Big Adventure

In a cozy bedroom, on a shelf by the window, lived a tiny red car named Bimka. Every day, Bimka looked out at the big city. She saw tall buses rumble by. She watched green trolleybuses glide past. Fast taxis zoomed and beeped.

"Oh, how I wish I could drive all around the city!" Bimka whispered one morning. But she was just a little toy car. She could only roll around the bedroom floor.

One sunny day, a boy named Max picked up Bimka. "Come on, little car," he said. He tucked her into his backpack, and off they went.

Bimka peeked out from the backpack. She saw a park with giant trees. She saw a square with a splashing fountain. She saw a shop with a bright, shiny sign.

"Hooray! I'm riding through the city!" Bimka cheered.

Max took her out near the sandbox. Bimka rolled through the soft sand. Then Max carried her to a bench where an old lady was telling a story. Bimka listened quietly.

Next, they went into a bakery. The air smelled of warm, fresh bread. Bimka saw tall ceilings and big glass windows.

They walked past the library. Past the hospital. Past the nursery school.

"So many things!" thought Bimka. "The city is so big!"

In the evening, Max brought Bimka home. He placed her back on the shelf by the window.

Bimka looked out. She saw the same square. The same shop. The same park.

"I was there!" she whispered to the other toys. "I drove all around the city!"

Now she knew what was outside. She knew where the park was. Where the fountain was. Where the bakery with the yummy bread was.

Max put his head on his pillow. Bimka stood on the shelf and smiled a tiny smile.

The city was falling asleep. One by one, lights twinkled on. And little red Bimka felt happy.

She closed her headlight eyes. And she fell asleep too.
