Tykhon was a little blue train. Every day he chugged along the tracks with his daddy, the big red train.
"Daddy, when can I go all by myself?" asked Tykhon.
"Soon, little one, soon," said his daddy.
One morning, Daddy said, "Today you will go alone! You will take apples to the next town."
Tykhon jumped up and down with joy! Choo-choo-choo! Off he went.
He sang as he rolled along: "Choo-choo-choo, I'm on my way! Choo-choo-choo, helping today!"
Suddenly, he saw a little bunny near the tracks.
"Little train, little train! Have you seen my mummy?" cried the bunny.
"No, I haven't," said Tykhon. "But I'm in a hurry. I must deliver these apples!" And he chugged away.
But somehow, he felt a little sad.
Around the bend, Tykhon saw a little bear cub.
"Little train, can you help me cross the tracks? I'm scared," asked the bear cub.
"I'm in a hurry," said Tykhon. "I have important work to do!"
But his wheels turned slower and slower. He felt even sadder.
At last, he stopped.
"What's wrong with me? Why am I so sad?" thought Tykhon.
So he turned around. First, he helped the little bear cross the tracks. Then he found the bunny's mummy and brought her back.
"Thank you, Tykhon!" cheered the animals.
And then Tykhon understood: helping others feels the best of all! He sang again: "Choo-choo-choo, helping everyone! Choo-choo-choo, I'm so happy!"
Tykhon delivered the apples right on time. And he brought home the most important thing of all—a kind heart.
Daddy hugged him. "You are a real train, little one. Not because you go fast, but because you have a kind heart."
That night, Tykhon fell fast asleep, dreaming of new journeys where he would help everyone who needed it.
