How Little Hare Sopilka Helped the Forest Fall Asleep

In a cozy forest, there lived a little hare named Sopilka. He had long floppy ears and a soft, fluffy tail.

One evening, the sun slipped behind the trees. Darkness crept in. The moon peeked out in the sky.

"Time for bed," said Mama Hare.

But Sopilka saw that the forest was still awake. Squirrel was hopping from branch to branch. Thump-thump!

"Squirrel, why aren't you asleep?" asked Sopilka.

"I'm looking for my acorn," said Squirrel.

Sopilka found the acorn under a bush. Squirrel took it, said thank you, and scampered to her tree hollow. She closed her eyes. She fell asleep.

Sopilka hopped on. Bump-bump!

By the stream sat Hedgehog. He looked sad.

"Hedgehog, why aren't you asleep?" asked Sopilka.

"I'm cold," said Hedgehog.

Sopilka brought soft moss. Hedgehog curled into a ball on the warm bed. He closed his eyes. He fell asleep.

Sopilka ran on. Pitter-patter!

In a meadow, baby birds were in their nest. They were cheeping.

"Baby birds, why aren't you asleep?" asked Sopilka.

"We're scared of the dark," they said.

Sopilka brought yellow fireflies. They glowed near the nest like tiny stars. The baby birds felt calm. They closed their eyes. They fell asleep.

Now the forest was very, very quiet. Squirrel slept in her hollow. Hedgehog slept on the moss. Baby birds slept in their nest.

Sopilka went home. Mama Hare stroked his ears.

"Good night, my little one," she whispered.

Sopilka lay on his soft bed of grass. He closed his eyes. He felt so peaceful and warm.

The forest slept. All its creatures slept. And little hare Sopilka fell fast asleep too.

The moon smiled from the sky. Hush, hush.
