In a green valley where tall ferns grew, there lived a little dinosaur named Topik. He was the biggest one in all the valley. When Topik walked, the ground went thump-thump-thump under his feet.
One morning Topik went out to play. He saw bright flowers and ran to them — thump-thump-thump! But little butterflies flew out of the flowers. They were so scared they hid far, far away.
"Why are you running away?" Topik wondered.
Then he saw a stream. He wanted a drink and ran fast-fast-fast. Thump-thump-thump! Little frogs jumped out of the water. They cried from fright.
"I only wanted a drink," said Topik sadly.
He walked on and saw a bush with tasty berries. He reached for them — and the bush went crackle-crack. Out popped a bird with a red crest.
"Oh, my nest!" she squeaked.
Topik sat down on the grass. He felt sad. "Why is everyone scared of me? I am kind," he thought.
Suddenly something squeaked nearby. It was a tiny mouse. It was tangled in the tall grass.
"Please help me," the mouse said softly.
Topik held his breath. He bent down very carefully. Slowly-slowly, he freed the mouse with his little claw.
"Thank you!" the mouse cheered. "You are so gentle!"
Topik's heart felt warm. He tiptoed to the stream. He drank some water. The frogs peeped out and laughed.
Then he went to the berry bush. He gently picked one berry. The red-crested bird flew down and sat on his back.
"You learned to walk quietly!" she chirped.
The butterflies came back and danced around Topik in a happy circle.
In the evening, the dinosaur lay on the soft grass. The mouse slept by his big paw. The frogs croaked softly by the stream. The bird dozed on a branch.
The valley was falling asleep. Topik closed his eyes and smiled.
