Prickly the Hedgehog and His Little Garden

In a cozy forest lived a little hedgehog named Prickly. He had a tiny garden right next to his house.

Every morning, Prickly woke up very, very early. He picked up his little watering can and went to his garden.

"Good morning, apple tree!" said the hedgehog.

"Good morning, pear tree!"

"Good morning, little berry bushes!"

Prickly watered the apple tree. He watered the pear tree. He watered the raspberry bushes.

One day, a little sparrow flew by.

"Prickly, why do you work here every day?" asked the sparrow.

"I take care of my garden," said the hedgehog. "Look, the apple tree is thirsty. And the berry bushes love it when I water them."

The sparrow flew away.

Prickly kept on working. He loosened the soil. He picked up the dry leaves. He sang a little song to his plants.

Summer passed. On the apple tree, little apples appeared. On the pear tree, little pears appeared. And on the bushes, red raspberries grew.

Prickly was so happy. He kept watering his garden.

The apples grew bigger. The pears grew bigger. The berries grew sweet and plump.

One evening, the sparrow came back. With him were a squirrel and a bunny.

"Oh, what lovely fruit!" said the squirrel.

"What sweet berries!" said the bunny.

Prickly smiled. He picked an apple for the squirrel. He picked a pear for the bunny. He filled a little bowl with berries for the sparrow.

"Help yourselves, friends!" said the hedgehog.

They all sat under the apple tree together. They ate the yummy fruit. They talked. They laughed.

And Prickly looked at his garden and smiled softly.

When it got dark, the hedgehog laid his head on his soft pillow. Outside the window, the leaves of his apple tree rustled in the breeze. Prickly closed his eyes.

In the garden, all was quiet and peaceful.
